1968 Verdelho, Blandy's - Madeira
The Blandy's are unique in being the only family of all the original founders of the Madeira wine trade to still own and manage their own original wine company. Madeira is unique in that their grape varieties will always indicate the richness (sweetness) of the wines - Serial is dry, Verdelho is medium dry, Bual is medium rich & Malmsey is rich. The fortified wines produced on Madeira all have a huge streak of acidity and have been heated during their maturation to temperatures that would destroy other wines. That they have survived to produce examples such as this is remarkable. Produced from the verdelho grape, this is a medium-sweet wine with hints of caramel and coffee. Serve it chilled and savour the extraordinary length of flavour.
