Until 2005, the Perraud family sold their grapes to the local co-operative but as the son of the family, Jean-Christophe, encouraged by his parents, has taken a keener interest, they have moved to making their own wine from their sixty acres of vines in Mâcon and St Veran. A mighty step for the then 24 year old, but quite obviously, the right move. His wines show a remarkable elegance and purity -both attributes that one would expect to find in the Mâconnais, but due to the relative maturity of their vines at around twenty-five years of age, the wines also show a complexity which is not quite so commonplace in these southern Burgundian vineyards, where inexpensive is deemed to be their first priority. This is a beautifully confident Chardonnay, and is a prime example of a young vigneron striking out on his own. |
